Weekly Update 12/12

Good afternoon families! What an amazing turnout for our Holiday Concert! It was wonderful to have our school community back together to celebrate the holidays. Huge thank you to Mr. Mech for putting together a terrific show. A few updates and reminders for you today.

Headphones/Chromebooks
We have been able to provide each student with a pair of headphones. We are seeing an uptick in broken headphones and/or chromebooks. We encourage all students to keep their chromebooks in the case provided and properly secure their headphones in the case or in a bag to protect them as much as possible. We will continue to provide students with headphones, but will be asking for $5 to replace them should they become lost or damaged. Students are able to bring and use their own headphones if they so choose. Sometimes students prefer more cushioned/supportive headphones. Many of our learning apps will give directions or read problems to students and having the headphones allows students do listen without disrupting others.

Attendance
We have seen some great improvements with attendance this month, and we are also seeing an uptick in colds and flu. Our custodians diligently clean all high touch surfaces throughout the day and night. We will be reminding students about good hand hygiene and remembering to cough/sneeze into their elbows. If your child will be out, please be sure to call the main office and if you have doctor’s notes, please send those in as well.

Upcoming Assessments
This week we will begin completing our Reading Benchmark assessments. Once we return from Christmas Break we will finish any remaining benchmarks. Our Multi-Lingual learners will begin ACCESS testing the week of January 9th. The ACCESS test will assess students reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to determine their overall English proficiency. We will be holding a virtual assembly ahead of the testing to support and encourage our students to do their best and cheer them on. Our iReady benchmark assessments will be given in late January/Early February. After the Christmas Break I will share out the MCAS testing schedule for students in Grade 3.
