Weekly Update 3/4

Good afternoon families! A few updates and reminders for today:

Attendance
As we all know, attendance greatly impacts achievement.  Tilton Elementary School will have an increased focus on attendance this year.  We want you to be partners with us in this endeavor.  Our plan in achieving/working towards this goal includes greater engagement between our teachers and families.  Please anticipate a call from your child’s teacher if your child has been out three or more consecutive days and we have not heard from you.

If your child is absent please call the main office as soon as possible to report the absence.   If your child has been out ill and seen by a health care provider, please send a note to the school- these absences will be excused. If students have a fever, they must remain home and can return when they are fever free for 24 hours. Please make sure that the school has all updated phone numbers.

Dismissal changes
If you need to change your child’s dismissal plan, please make sure to send a note or call the office. We ask that any changes be called in before 2:30 as the office can get hectic in the afternoon. We also try not to have students get dismissed from the office at 3:00 or after again as we are getting ready for dismissal.

Bingo for Books
On Thursday, March 21st we will hold our annual Bingo for Books from 6:00-7:00. Space will be limited. More information to come soon!

MCAS
Even though we are still a month out from MCAS testing, we ask Grades 3 & 4 families to look at these dates and avoid scheduling appointments or vacations during these dates. As we get closer, we will send out more information.

ELA
Grade 3 April 3 & 4
Grade 4 April 10 & 11

Math
Grade 3 May 21 & 22
Grade 4 May 15 & 16

Chromebooks
On Friday, our new chromebook system went into effect. If your child forgets his/her chromebook, we will assign them a new one for the day. It will be assigned directly to them in the database rather than just marking it in our own paper log. If your child is missing his/her chromebook, they will need to be issued a new one rather than borrowing one every day.

Grade 4 Families:
As part of the Health and Wellness curriculum, students in 4th grade will receive 3 lessons centered around Vaping. We recently sent home informational letters as to the purpose of these lessons. It also provides you an opportunity to have your child “opt out” of these lessons. They will go to a different special when their class is to have these lessons. To opt out, you must notify your child’s teacher. These lessons will begin in April.

Bus Passes
If your child needs a new bus pass, please make sure to let the office know. All students who ride the bus must be swiping on and off the bus in the morning and the afternoon. Please remind your child to do this.
